Preparing a Barros Jarpa sandwich is as simple as it is delicious. It consists of a slice of creamy cheese and another of pork ham, all assembled in a marraqueta, hallulla, homemade bread, or sandwich bread.

Ingredients
- 2 slices of bread
- 2 slices of cheese
- 2 slices of ham
Preparation
- On a preheated griddle or large skillet, place the slices of pork ham and heat for about 30 seconds on each side, then add a slice of creamy cheese on top of each.
- Place the slices of sandwich bread, spreading a little butter on each side, and place on the griddle until lightly toasted.
- Once the cheese is melted, use a spatula to lift and place on the hot, semi-toasted bread. Serve the Barros Jarpa immediately while it is warm, accompanied by a good coffee or hot milk.
Origin of the Barros Jarpa Sandwich
The Barros Jarpa sandwich is named in honor of the several-time Chilean minister Ernesto Barros Jarpa, who often requested it during his visits to the Union Club of Santiago. He preferred replacing the meat in the Barros Luco with pork ham, as it was easier for him to eat.
