To showcase Chile’s exportable offerings related to seafood in Hong Kong, ProChile’s economic department in that area organized a press lunch led by chef Carolina Bazán, better known as “China Bazán.”

Bazán was named the Best Female Chef in the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking in 2019 and positioned her restaurant Ambrosía in the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking in 2014.

This lunch, titled “Travel and Flavors of Chile,” held at the exclusive The Mira Hotel in Hong Kong, featured a menu with items such as abalone, mussels, and salmon, along with Chilean white wine and pisco.

For Margaret Ip, ProChile’s commercial representative in Hong Kong, the execution of this event is a milestone for the market, as it will make visible the diverse Chilean offering of seafood, a product highly sought after by local consumers.

Traditionally, Chile is known for its fine wines, but now through this promotional activity, we were able to bring the country closer with tasty seafood products and energetic pisco to this side of the world.

In addition to the lunch, a tourism seminar was held to promote tourist destinations such as the Atacama Desert, Patagonia, Easter Island, and Santiago.

ProChile’s commercial representative comments:

Creating emotional bonds between Chile’s attributes and consumers, importers, and farmers in Hong Kong is essential to enhance bilateral trade. It is also an unforgettable experience for the media and the general public, who learned more about gastronomic tourism in Chile, where the sustainable and healthy origin of Chilean products was highlighted.

According to ProChile’s Market Intelligence Department figures, Chile exports mainly salmon and trout, abalone (locos), mussels, cherries, and wines to Hong Kong.

In 2022, the country exported US$12 million in cherries and salmon/trout and US$3 million in abalones.

In addition to this ProChile lunch, Bazán participated in an event with chef William Lau in Hong Kong on Friday, November 17, and Saturday, November 18, at Whisk, a significant restaurant located in the Mira Hotel.
